By now most of you are familiar with LOL, LMAO and ROFL—or you should be. If not, these are short for Laughing Out Loud, Laughing My A$$ Off and Rolling On Floor Laughing. While these ones are more famous, there are others out there. As parents you need to be aware of what they are. Your kids are probably using them.

Titled “Terms Parents Need To Know” SocialShield has released a list of 33 “not-so-well-known” terms your kids could be using.

Parents don’t have time to keep an eye on every message or post their kids make. I thought I was a text-a-holic sending 100 messages in a day, but youth today can send 100 in an hour—without even trying. That’s a lot of texts to keep up with. Kids these days use their phones for everything—they’re machines! (yes I just used ‘kids these days’)

Plus many parents don’t have a full grasp on social media. It takes education. I remember having to give my mom a list of terms years ago. After several emails between us she finally worked up the nerve to ask me why I kept typing “LOL” all the time. My response opened up Pandora’s Box though since now she uses the term more than I do!

Check this list out. You may have seen some of these terms and overlooked them as meaningless. Well they do mean something and it’s important you’re aware of it. Especially when oversharing and sexting is on the rise with youth. You won’t know there’s a problem if you don’t know what to look for. Now if you see your kids use CD5, you’ll know what to do.
