Facebook rolled out some changes last night. Perhaps you’ve noticed? If not just take a look at your news feed. Not only will it look messed up, but everyone’s status updates will no doubt be talking about the change (and will be for days to come). Facebook is different, and people are not happy.
Facebook’s F8 developer conference is tomorrow, so it’s the perfect time to shake up the website again. We knew changes were coming, but this redesign doesn’t contain any music or media. That means you can be sure that this isn’t the end of the surprises you’ll find when you log into the site.
Now the news feed is all kinds of different. And by different I mean crazy. And by crazy I mean it looks like I just logged into Google+ (which I know I didn’t do because I haven’t used Google+ in weeks). Instead of being able to choose to see Top Posts or Recent Posts, all your news is now in one place. Great. Popular (top) stories are found at the top and are earmarked with a blue corner graphic. Recent stories follow below.
Since the news feed has bigger pictures and each post takes up a lot more screen real estate, Facebook decided to give you a second news feed! How generous! The “ticker” is a condensed news feed with faster scrolling more current content that contains no pictures. You can spot it at the top of the right hand column.
Like every major site redesign, people are not happy. No one likes change, especially when they are used to doing something the same way for years. Websites change though. They evolve. It’s just a matter of getting used to it. In the case of Facebook, don’t get too comfy with this rollout. It’s not over! There’s more to come, this is only the beginning!
