Designed: March 1, 2002 Materials: Spruce 1x3 frame covered with Baltic Birch paneling and veneer tape and finished with clear varathane. Furniture Foam was upholstered with polyester suede fabric for cushions and armrests. The entire chair operated with various lengths and thickness of piano hinge. Challenge: To design a chair or a table. Solution: The solution was to design a chair that can easily change from a comfortable place to sit to a table surface when one is needed. Simply put, I wanted a chair that folded into a box. The box assumes the look of a packing crate, and through the use of piano hinge, this crate unfolds into an interesting and comfortable chair.
