Designed: March 2001 Materials: Welded steel rods, 4 ‘candle-light’ chandelier bulbs, 4 ceramic sockets, canvas and yarn Challenge: To design a lamp using influences in nature Solution: Shooting star draws upon abstracted shapes in nature to become a wall mounted mood light. The image of a few leaves and blades of grass was abstracted over and over again until an almost symmetrical design was created to house the lamp. A steel rod frame was welded together around a light box featuring 4 ceramic sockets and 4 candlelight chandelier bulbs. The entire frame was then covered in canvas and sewn to the rods. The overall effect from Shooting Star is a soft orange glow in the room, with a more intense array of light emanating out of the top of the lamp. [back]
