Designed: November/December 2000 Challenge: To critique and redesign a store in HUB Mall Solution: Existing layout of the store had the cashier upstairs and around a corner, a fruit selection limited to a few products in a basket in the back of the store, and popular items dispersed around the entire layout. To create a better overall layout, the design moved towards an actual market feel, with a wide selection of fruits and vegetables at the front of the store. Popular items would be moved to the ground floor, as would the cashier. This allows for customers in a hurry between classes to quickly stop in and get out without racing around trying to find the things they need. A more unified sign system was also designed to make pricing easier to understand. [back]
