Design Team: Ryan Majeau Designed: March/April 2001 Dimensions: 24”x 12” x 3” Challenge: To take an existing product line and anticipate a future series Solution: Critiquing current stereo designs, my design team wanted to address the “box” look that takes up a lot of space, and really doesn’t add much to the overall décor of a room. Looking at AIWA, we felt this company has done a number of great things in the past and felt that their style in fixing these issues would make for a good “future product line”. In designing this product, we focused on eliminating the box look by making a fold out system utilizing opposing curves. The CD drives and speakers fold out when in use. The unit becomes longer, but thinner. This means it takes up less space on a surface, but can also be mounted on a wall. Semi-transparent colored plastic for the casing allows you to see interior circuitry, and touch-screen controls allow for less surface space to be taken up by stationary buttons. A wide selection of colors is also available, so each system can be customized to match your environment. The end result is a clean, aesthetically pleasing stereo system which adds to your décor, not take away from it. Modeled and rendered in Rhino3D [back]
