Only a couple of more days until everyone can time travel with Facebook Timeline. I had the chance to try this new profile out this weekend and it’s pretty cool. Memory lane is fun, but it’s not all unicorns and bliss. Now more than ever you’re going to have to watch what you post.
Facebook Timeline was a rollercoaster ride of emotions as I spent the whole night reliving my life—well, at least my life on Facebook. Just like they said it would be it was all there. All 4 years of it. The good, the bad and the ugly (mostly good though). All just mere clicks away. Thanks Facebook!
As exciting as it was, that’s most likely going to be the first and only time I will do that. I expect the same will happen to you. The new profile will appear, an uproar of dislike will follow, but you’ll all still take that trip down memory lane. I’m sure of it.
We’re all curious by nature and after a few clicks you’ll be hooked. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll shriek with joy—but like I said, the novelty will quickly wear off. You can only go back to 2007 so many times. Bored now.
The ease of time travel is both Timeline’s best and worst feature. While your trip down memory lane will come and go, it’s open season for all of your friends to take that same trip through your profile at any time. Profile lurking could be done before but it took work. Who has time for that? Now it’s easy! So it’s a bit scary. Check your privacy settings!
Even worse, one small oops could give a hacker access to all your data with that same ease of viewing. No digging, it’s all right there. Thanks Facebook!
You’ll see for yourself October 6. Enjoy memory lane, and just remember others will too. Tell your life story if you must, but remember you never know who is viewing your profile. Be sure to think before you click!
