Facebook Enables Time Travel

Ever wish you could go back in time? Maybe to relive a fond moment, or erase one? Now you can! Well, at least on Facebook. Timeline was unveiled today. Get ready, it’s going to be a life changer.

Facebook said there was going to be a major overhaul of “user profiles”. They weren’t lying. Timeline will be the biggest change to hit the social networking site to date. The same way all of your news got put in one place earlier this week, soon your entire life will be put on one single page.

All recent info will still show up first, but if you’re feeling nostalgic just check out the timeline on the right. It breaks down your posts by year and then further by month. Click July 2007 and see all of your posts, photos and life events from that special summer. Now click December 2010 and there are all of those Christmas party pictures from last year! That really was a hideous outfit. Delete!

Timeline only shows you content as far back as when you signed up to Facebook, but don’t let that stop you. For all of those years you’re missing you can go in and fill in the blanks. Insert your past as you see fit!

I personally can’t see myself having the time to recreate my life on Facebook (do you?). What I can see myself doing is taking a stroll or two down memory lane.

If you thought public reaction to the news feed update was bad, the backlash for this change will be epic. You can be sure one group of people welcomes the revision—hackers. The more information you have posted, the more information there is to be stolen.

So enjoy Timeline—just be careful of how much you share and what you click. The one thing Facebook won’t let you go back in time to change is if you get your personal information stolen.
